Next on Greenland’s path to greater independence: 'Free Association'?
Greenland's constitutional relation to Denmark is strained and a Greenlandic draft constitution has been unveiled. In recent decades, discussions in Greenland about future sovereignty have increasingly returned to the concept of free association.
On this site, you will find text, audio and video content produced for and at two seminars about what free association entails. The first seminar was held in Nuuk on 24 May 2023 and was organized by DIIS and the Nasiffik Center for Foreign and Security Policy at Ilisimatusarfik/University of Greenland. The second seminar was held in Copenhagen 24 October 2023 at DIIS.
