A small atoll in the middle of the Pacific once housed one of the major military bases from where French nuclear testing established France as one of world's major nuclear powers. 20 years after the French left, the local population is still grappling with the consequences of nuclear radiation and waste, as well as a strong nostalgia for a nuclear past filled with prospects, prosperity and parties.
