Betrayal in the city

The impact of urban renewal for the poor

This publication is an introduction to a special issue on the conflicts and disenchantments urban development projects generate for low income populations across the globe.

It examines the promises of urban development and how people mobilize in response to the interventions from protests to subtle everyday actions, and show that the outcomes are often far from how people envisioned their life in the city.

The article is published in the journal City & Society and co-authored by Martin Koster, Radboud University.
