The UN post-2015 process: Insights from Europe and China

New DIE/GDI book with DIIS contribution on past EU experiences at high-level negotiations

The end of the Millennium Development Goals are fast approaching with a new post-2015 framework expected to be finished by next fall. This week, leaders are gathered in New York to review and discuss the MDGs’ strength and weaknesses, to learn from this framework in constructing the next.

DIIS researcher Adam Moe Fejerskov (alongside Niels Keijzer of the German Development Institute) contributes to a new volume on European and Chinese perspectives on the post-2015 process. The contribution tracks past EU experiences with negotiations at high level meetings, advising European policymakers to seek out alternative alliances with developing countries, be flexible in negotiations, and promote a broad agenda, also covering Sustainable Development Goals.

The collection of scholarly articles reflects the main topics of a dialogue and research programme between the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) on the post-2015 global development agenda. The contributions cover a wide range of critical issues for the design and implementation of the new framework at national and international levels.
