Izabela Surwillo’s research focuses on international relations and energy security in the Baltic Sea Region and Central and Eastern Europe.
Current research
Izabela Surwillo’s current research analyses the development of new energy infrastructure projects in the Baltic Sea Region. She analyzes what role scientific knowledge and technical data play in the decision-making process and public communication about these projects. Izabela Surwillo also studies low carbon energy transitions and wider political developments in Central and Eastern Europe, including countries such as Poland and Ukraine.
Projects
Izabela Surwillo is a senior researcher on the project “SECURITECH”, which is funded by the Carlsberg Foundation and led by the PI Trine Villumsen Berling. The project investigates new energy infrastructure and the displacement of security authority in the Baltic Sea region, focusing on the development of the Nordstream 2 pipeline, the first nuclear power plant in Poland, and the LNG terminal in Lithuania.
