Four new PhD candidates join the AIDA team in Tanzania and Uganda

Early 2016, DIIS received a five-year FFU research grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark to - in collaboration with partners in Denmark, Tanzania and Uganda - examine Agricultural Investors as Development Actors (AIDA). Part of the commitment is to educate four PhD candidates - two from Tanzania and two from Uganda.

Following a process of open announcement, reception and joint assessment of applications from 23 potential candidates and interviews with 10 of the potential candidates, four PhD candidates - Festo Maro & Nico Malik from Tanzania and Teddy Nakanwagi and Micheal Byaruhanga from Uganda - have been selected and offered to form part of the AIDA research team as PhD candidates for the coming four years. The PhD candidates will take part in the research on the development outcomes of foreign agricultural investments with respect to (i) employment and wider economic outcomes of two to three (clusters of) selected Danish agricultural investments; and (ii) the outcomes of the same two to three (clusters of) Danish agricultural investments with respect to land tenure security and water security. The four PhD candidates will spend part of their research time in Denmark and we look forward to welcoming them hopefully during the early part of 2017.
