New book about Jewish Resistance against the Nazis

Cecilie Banke writes about Jewish resistance in Scandinavia under Nazism

In this recently published volume Jewish Resistance against the Nazis, edited by Patrick Henry, a number of international scholars, including Senior Researcher Cecilie Felicia Stokholm Banke, DIIS, explore Jewish resistance in several countries and in its many forms.

In her essay “Between Awareness and Accommodation: Jewish Resistance in Scandinavia under Nazism”, Banke describes how the Jewish communities in Denmark, Norway and Sweden responded to the persecution of Jews in Nazi-Germany and during the Occupation, and she discusses what kind of new insights, this perspective on Jewish resistance can bring to our understanding of the Jewish communities in these countries both then and now.

Jewish Resistance against the Nazis is published by the Catholic University of America Press, and includes essays from among others Berel Lang, Nechama Tec, Déborah Dwork and Yehuda Bauer.

The volume is available at the DIIS library and at Project MUSE(requires login).
