A new World Bank approach to conflict, security and development?
Finn Stepputat and Louise Riis Andersen comment on the World Bank Development Report 2011
In a contribution to the Nordic Africa Institute's web-forum on the World Bank's 2011 Development Report, DIIS researchers Finn Stepputat and Louise Riis Andersen suggest that the WDR 2011 marks an important shift in the Bank's approach to the analysis of violence, conflict and fragile situations.
The new approach is more pragmatic and realistic and indicates a growing awareness of the importance of politics and context. There are, however, clear limits to the rethink and the solutions imagined in the report. The report remains firmly committed to the vision of a Liberal Peace for all.
