Primary research areas
Ian Klinke studies the transatlantic history of geopolitics from the late nineteenth century to the present. Key research interests of his are far right political thought and nuclear weapons. Ian is a visiting researcher at DIIS from the University of Oxford.
Current research
In January 2024, Ian will begin the project Beyond Atlanticism and Ostpolitik: Germany and NATO from Kosovo to Ukraine, funded by a British Academic mid-career fellowship.
Previous research of his examines the thought of the German geographer Friedrich Ratzel (1844-1904) and the nuclear landscapes of 1950s and 60s West Germany. His PhD (UCL, 2011) grappled with the revival of geopolitics in Europe during the 2000s.
