From artificial intelligence and big data to quantum computing and fifth-generation mobile networks, China’s advances in technology and innovation are unprecedented for a middle-income country. Its progress has led to fierce competition with the United States over global leadership in new and emerging technologies and is shaping the contours of global affairs and industrial competition in the 21st century. This webinar will unpack the main areas of the US-China tech rivalry and the challenges and opportunities for Europe’s democracies.

In partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, DIIS is pleased to welcome two of Europe’s leading experts on China and technology to participate in a webinar leading up to the Tech for Democracy dialogue. Nigel Inkster, author of The Great Decoupling (Hurst, 2021), and Didi Kirsten Tatlow, co-editor of China’s Quest for Foreign Technology (Routledge, 2021), will each offer their perspective on the implications of China’s rise as a technology power.
