Securing business in African war zones

Blackwater founder's expertise in logistical support is useful - but serves a side in a civil war

A new company, Frontier Services, is now engaged in providing logistical support to Chinese companies and African governments in conflict zones such as South Sudan. Itwas started by Erik Prince, the founder of the Blackwater private security group.

DIIS senior researcher, Luke Patey, gave aninterview to Bloomberg Businesson the operations of the Frontier Services Group in Africa.

“They can do logistics under fire where other companies wouldn’t want to get involved because of the risks,” said Patey. “I think the expertise of a former private military contractor is very useful in this regard.”

Patey further commented that Frontier Services is “offering this service to a side in a civil war.” While Prince says his company is simply “on the side of peace and economic development.”
