New Approaches to School Bullying

New book published by DIIS researcher

Robin May Schott, Senior Researcher in the research area on Peace, Risk and Violence, and Dorte Marie Søndergaard, Professor of Social Psychology in the Department of Education (DPU), Aarhus University,  have just published their co-edited book, School Bullying; New Theories in Context (Cambridge University Press, 2014).

The book is the culmination of the research project begun at DPU on “Exploring Bullying in Schools” (eXbus), which was directed by Dorte Marie Søndergaard.

Schott’s articles in the book include a co-authored introduction, “New approaches to school bullying” as well as her articles, “The social concept of bullying: philosophical reflections on definitions” and “The life and death of bullying”. In her contributions to this book, Schott draws on her research in the areas of conflict and violence to reflect on the dynamics of groups in the context of bullying amongst youth.

Ann Phoenix, Institute of Education, University of London writes of the book:

“Once in a generation, a new book helps to shift understanding of a long-standing social issue. School Bullying: New Theories in Context is such a book.”
