Lectures and teaching in Latin America

Stefano Guzzini at FLACSO-ISA and ABCP conferences and teaching at PUC-Rio de Janeiro

On a 10 weeks visit in Latin America, Stefano Guzzini delivered a paper at the joint FLACSO-ISA conference in Buenos Aires on 25 July, entitled ‘Benjamin Cohen on global political order: variations on a Gershwin tune’. The paper was part of a panel, organized and chaired by Diana Tussie (FLACSO, Buenos Aires), honoring the work of the international political economist Benjamin J. Cohen. Participants of the panel included Gregory T. Chin (York University), Erik Helleiner (University of Waterloo), Anna Leander (Copenhagen Business School), Margaret Pearson (University of Maryland), Geoffrey Underhill (University of Amsterdam). On 6 August, he delivered a paper on ‘International Political Sociology’ at the convention of the Brazilian Political Science Association (ABCP) in Brasilia. Since then, he is stationed in Rio de Janeiro where he is teaching at the Institute for International Relations (IRI) of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). He gives a MA/PhD seminar on ‘Agents and Structures of the International System: social theories of international power’. DIIS and PUC-Rio have established an exchange of researchers and a programme of joint PhD supervision.
