Human rights and green growth

Potential risks in naive green growth strategies
DIIS researcher Ian Christoplos has recently published an article in the journal D + C that looks critically at the risks that green growth efforts may overlook lessons from development practice on what may constitute ‘pro-poor growth’. He points out that new technologies and investments may not address climate vulnerabilities, even if they are ‘climate friendly’. By applying a human rights based perspective, the article stresses the need for due diligence in ensuring that green growth encourages, rather than obstructs, efforts to promote participation, transparency, accountability and non-discrimination.
