How do we remember the Holocaust in the future?

Plenary: International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance

How do we counter rising antisemitism in Europe? What can be done about access of researchers to archives about the Holocaust? How are the effects of Holocaust education meassured and evaluated? These and other pressing issues were discussed by experts from all over the world at the plenary meeting of the International Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) under the Hungarian chairmanship.

DIIS senior researcher Cecilie Felicia Stokholm Banke, head of the Danish delegation, participated in the plenary meeting along with Solvej Berlau and Stine Thuge, in charge of the DIIS project connected to Auschwitz Day - the Danish memorial day. At the meeting, the Danish country report was also presented and commented by the member countries of IHRA.

A central theme at the meeting in Debrecen, Hungary, was the current refugee situation in Europe and it was discussed whether IHRA could contribute with its expertise within education and historical research. Is the current situation comparable to Europe in the 1930s where Jews and other groups attempted to flee Nazi persecution?
