Europe's Crystal Curtain
Senior Researcher Fabrizio Tassinari has contributed a commentary on Europe’s North-South divide to the U.S. edition of the Huffington Post online newspaper.
Writing with a view to the forthcoming European parliament elections, Tassinari argues that Europe's sovereign-debt and banking crisis has left behind a widening gap between the fiscally pious nations above of the Alps and the profligate countries in the South. Underpinning the many explanations that have been offered about this rift, Tassinari argues that there persists a deep-seated governance divide between the two halves of Europe, which is eroding Europe's social and political fabric.
Tassinari’s contribution is part of the WorldPost initiative, a global partnership between the Huffington Post and the Los Angeles-based Berggruen Institute of Governance.
