DIIS Researcher awarded prestigious film prize in the US

The film Heartbound 'adds value to the field of anthropology and migration'


DIIS Senior Researcher Sine Plambech was awarded the prize for Best Anthropological Feature Film for her film Heartbound at the AAA Annual Meeting (American Anthropologist Association) in San Jose, California, with more than 6,000 attendees - the world’s largest gathering of anthropologists.

The Society for Visual Anthropology and the Jury awarded Heartbound the prize for it's longitudinal investigation of migration, for anthropological relevance and for adding value to the field of anthropology and migration.

The film is co-directed with Janus Metz and follows the lives of a group of migrant women over the time course of 10 years. The film is based on the research conducted by Sine Plambech in migrant communities in Thailand and Denmark.

Heartbound has won, and is nominated for, a number of awards, it is sold to BBC and is currently scheduled to open in cinemas in the Netherlands, Sweden and Thailand in the coming months.

Sine Plambech's research for the film was funded by a Sapere Aude elite research grant by FKK.

Heartbound is funded by the Danish Film Institute; DR1, Swedish Film Institute; VPRO and EUROIMAGES (EU's film fund).
