Sustainable Energy for All should balance ambitions and resources

The Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative promotes efforts to achieve universal energy access, foster significant energy efficiency improvements and expand reliance on renewable energy sources.

In this Policy Brief, Erik Lundsgaarde highlights two areas for the SE4ALL Secretariat and its supporters to prioritize to enable the initiative to further advance its important agenda:

• Improved communication to distinguish the roles of the SE4ALL Secretariat and its implementing partners at different levels of action would be useful to clarify the contributions of diverse actors to the initiative’s goals and to attribute progress to the right places.
• Broadened outreach to state and non-state actors beyond the small circle of current financial backers of the initiative is essential to demonstrate the global salience of the agenda and strengthen the capacities of the Secretariat and implementing partners to engage in convening, knowledge brokerage, and investment facilitation activities.
