Primary research areas
Christine Nissen’s research focuses on security, Western interventionism, international relations theory, European integration and national public policy. In particular, she studies the multilateral security governance structures and how it affects European states.
Current research
Christine Nissen’s current research analyses wider European security, with a particular focus on the EU as a security actor. Here, Christine explores new EU initiatives within the field of security and defence. Christine recently contributed to the DIIS white paper on EU defence and security cooperation and the Danish EU defence opt-out. Studying Danish foreign and security policy thus remains an important part of Christines research.
Christine also works on European border interventions and transnational security in Africa, where she has conducted extensive fieldwork in Brussels and Mali on the EU’s international presence in the Sahel. A recent output of such work is found in a co-authored article in International Affairs with Signe Cold-Ravnkilde.
Through her affiliation with the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), Christine produces analysis on varied issues within the field of European security on varied issues such as COVID-19 responses, European Cohesion and strategic autonomy.
