Foreign agricultural investments as drivers of transformation?

Results from AIDA research programme presented at the Asia & Africa in Transition conference, June 2021

The AIDA team organized a two-panel session titled “Foreign Agricultural Investments as Drivers of Transformation?at the international conference Asia & Africa in Transition, which took place at University of Copenhagen, June 28-30, 2021.

In addition to a short introduction to the panel, titled as the panel, by Rikke B Broegaard, the following papers were presented:

By Professor Khamaldin Mutabazi, School of Agricultural Economics and Business Studies, Sokoine University of Agriculture, Morogoro, Tanzania
  • The United Arab Emirates and food security. Agribusiness investments in Africa to secure food supply. By Dr. Kristin Kamøy, University of Wollongong in Dubai
  • Foreign agricultural investments transforming rural land tenure security? (Tanzania). By Associate Professor Rikke B Broegaard, Department of Geoscience and Natural Resource Management, University of Copenhagen.
  • Mapping of Danish investors in Sub-Saharan Africa and their motivations. By Senior Researcher Helle Munk Ravnborg, Danish Institute of International Studies, and PI for the AIDA programme.

After each panel (of three paper presentations, cross-paper discussions were facilitated by Dr. Ravnborg and Dr. Lazaro, respectively.

The panel was carried out in a so-called hybrid format, with some presenters and participants present at the Southern Campus of the University of Copenhagen, and some presenters and participants with online participation, due to the Covid19 situation.
