Following the food-price hikes and financial crisis of recent years, food security has become increasingly prominent on the political agenda in many countries.

Traditionally, food security policies have focused on improving farmer’s yields, enhancing national self-sufficiency and delivering food aid. But while these issues remain critical, it is also clear that a much broader perspective is now needed.

The book “New Challenges to Food Security: From climate change to fragile states” is the first to bring together the multiple challenges that face food security in a rapidly changing world. The book explores the global and local challenges to food security in a context of market volatility, climate change and state fragility, and discusses the emerging ways forward.

Edited by DIIS researchers Ian Christoplos and Adam Pain, the book includes chapters by experts from around the world, including several DIIS researchers.
