Euro-Atlantic Geopolitics in the post-Cold War Era

DIIS researcher publishes book of interest to political scientists, observers, academics and students, it's an invaluable guide to post-Cold War European relations.

The volume The Geopolitics of Euro-Atlantic Integration (Hans Mouritzen and Anders Wivel eds.), first published by Routledge as a hardcover in 2005, has now been translated and published in Japanese (paperback). For non-Japanese readers, however, the book is still available as an English paperback (published 2007). For further information see here.

The authors argue that EU- and NATO-mediated geopolitics prevails in most of Europe, but that raw geopolitics pops up at the fringes of this thoroughly institutionalized area. Moreover, the effects of past geopolitics persist in the collective memories of several states and compete with contemporary geopolitics in their policy formulations. The coherence of this volume is facilitated by constellation theory, a new geopolitical theory explaining European foreign policies in a comparative perspective. Of interest to political scientists, observers, academics and students, this is an invaluable guide to post-Cold War European relations.
