Denmark at war

Are we losing track?

The question of responsibility for Danish warfare during the past decade is back at the top of the agenda. In her report on democracy and the supervised war, senior researcher Vibeke Tjalve focuses on the interaction between politicians, the defense and the media.

The report concludes that we are losing track. Danish defense is decentralizing, politicians discuss legal details and the media prefers to cover personal stories rather than background analysis. The Danes are entertained, but the overall political strategy is elusive or pushed down to soldiers and civil servants. This, and not the legal personal matters, is the most important democratic problem of the next decade.
