Natural resource investments in Africa
The research programme Hierarchies of Rights: Land and investments in Africais launched 27 October at Roskilde University. The programme focuses on large-scale investments into natural resources and how they affect rights to land in Sub-Saharan Africa. It covers investments in three sectors - petroleum, minerals and agriculture - in two countries, Tanzania and Mozambique. The programme involves Rasmus Hundsbæk Pedersen and Luke Patey from DIIS and will run until December 2018.
The projectstrives to offer input for local civil society, national governments, and multinational corporations on how to better manage disputes over land and natural resources and create conditions for inclusive growth and political stability. It also seeks to provide guidance for donors on how to harness development aid towards strengthening small-holders' rights and avoiding the resource curse in Sub-Saharan African countries undergoing resource booms.
The launch will take place from 10:40-12:30 in Room 24.1. at Roskilde University and everybody is welcome.
