The Greenland ice sheet and our planetary future

Join us for an expedition exploring the science and global politics of vanishing ice, from Greenland to COP27, with famous glaciologist Jason Box

The Greenland icecap is a key frontier of climate change: every inch that melts here, ends up as sea level rise around the world. Join us for a journey from the icecap of Greenland to scientific controversies that hit straight into the heart of the world’s biggest challenge: averting catastrophic climate change.

We will be guided by Jason Box, a world-famous climate scientist that engages this challenge from the slippery and rugged landscape of the Greenland Ice Sheet. Jason has participated in 30 scientific expeditions to Greenland, is a lead author of several major reports on climate change in the Arctic and is a major voice in climate debates, featuring, among others, in the documentary Before the Flood. Through impressions and findings from his Arctic expeditions, Jason will explore such questions as:

  • How long do we have before the Greenland ice sheet melts into the ocean? Can we still avert that Denmark submerges?
  • What findings end up in the IPCC reports, on which global goals are based, and which don’t, and why?
  • What’s at stake at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27)?

Jason’s presentation will be followed by a moderated discussion and a glass of wine.
