European digital sovereignty

Strategic autonomy in the realm of new tech
big data is watching you

The digital realm is an arena of power projection and influence in the international sphere, in equal parts forming threats to European citizens as to states or businesses. Developments that have only been accelerated by Covid-19. A pronounced priority of Germany’s 2020 EU Presidency is a call that ‘Europe must bolster its digital sovereignty to effectively respond to future challenges, guarantee livelihoods and ensure the security of its citizens’. But what room or opportunities are there, if any, for political regulation in an otherwise boundless realm of digital disruptions and innovations?

DIIS together with the German Embassy in Copenhagen and the Goethe-Institut Dänemark cordially invites you to an online seminar on the prospects for European digital sovereignty in the 21st century. The online seminar explores the challenges posed by emerging technologies to both European citizens and to Europe as such. How are European values and principles challenges in, but perhaps also bolstered through, the digital realm? What is the vision for European digital sovereignty with a human face that protects digital human rights? These questions and many more will be explored at the online seminar.

The seminar is supported by the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen and part of the Danish-German Year of Cultural Friendship 2020.
