DIIS Foreign Policy research area on a study tour in Berlin

On 22nd and 23rd of May, the Foreign Policy research area at DIIS carried out a study tour in Berlin to learn more about the priorities and current developments in German foreign policy.

The visit included a closed-door workshop at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, where DIIS researchers Rasmus Alenius Boserup and Ulla Holm presented the main findings of a recent research project on Algeria, and German counterparts presented the main issues defining German Eastern policy in light of the Ukraine crisis. Next, the Mercator Stiftung, one of the largest private foundations in Germany,presented its ongoing work on China and Europe. A meeting at the German Foreign Office elucidated the priorities of German policy planning, including the ministry’s ongoing review process. DIIS researcher Hans Mouritzen delivered comments on Denmark’s Eastern European policy to staffers in the Eastern Europe, NATO and economics departments of the Ministry. Lastly, DIIS researchers visited the Bundestag for a meeting with Dr Andreas Nick, member of the Bundestag, of its Foreign Affairs committee and reference person for the Christian Democratic Union on relations with Hungary and Turkey.
