Seminar on the realist tradition in international relations

In the context of of a guest professorship financed by the European Union, DIIS Senior Researcher Stefano Guzzini recently held a seminar (turned online for the pandemic) on the realist tradition in international relations at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Lublin, Poland.

The seminar covered the origins of realism in the diplomatic practice and military strategy of the European 18^th and 19^th century, its different lineages (diplomatic and geopolitical), its scientific expressions from classical to neorealism, its political theory, that critises liberal perfectionism in a defense of liberal pluralism, and its political practice opposing neo-conservative unilateralism and exceptionalism in a defense of political prudence.
