Seminar on the realist tradition in international relations

DIIS Senior Researcher Stefano Guzzini on the realist tradition in international relations at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University

In the context of of a guest professorship financed by the European Union, DIIS Senior Researcher Stefano Guzzini recently held a seminar (turned online for the pandemic) on the realist tradition in international relations at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Lublin, Poland.

The seminar covered the origins of realism in the diplomatic practice and military strategy of the European 18th and 19th century, its different lineages (diplomatic and geopolitical), its scientific expressions from classical to neorealism, its political theory, that critises liberal perfectionism in a defense of liberal pluralism, and its political practice opposing neo-conservative unilateralism and exceptionalism in a defense of political prudence.
