Results-based aid – yes, of course!

The debate has turned down a cul-de-sac

A focus on results has claimed the agenda in international development cooperation. 'Managing for results' is a central message in the Paris Declaration. This is actually a very big step forward as it holds the potential of challenging many preconceived ideas about what works and what does not work in development cooperation. However, the debate now heads down a blind alley as some believe that the core issue is whether we should go for results or not. But everybody evidently wants results in terms of reduced poverty. The question is rather which results and how to achieve them?

Lars Engberg-Pedersen discusses these issues in a contribution to the ongoing debate on NAI Forum. Read it here.
