How will the world pay for the next round of development goals?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are expected to be adopted by the UN General Assembly in September. They will define an ambitious and bold development agenda for the next 15 years. The new goals will strive to not only eradicate poverty, improve education and health but also seek to address inter-related challenges such as inequality, peace and security, climate change and environmental degradation.

To finance this new expanded agenda it will be necessary to mobilize domestic, international, public as well as private funds. World leaders will gather in July in Addis Ababa to discuss and come up with a financing framework to support the implementation of the new development agenda. Much is at stake. With less than two months to go, where are we in the negotiation process and where are the current breakthroughs and obstacles?

UNDP Nordic Office in cooperation with Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) invite you for a presentation byGail Hurley, Policy Specialist on development finance and UNDP focal point for the upcoming conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa in July. She will provide an update on the current process and reflect on the increasingly volatile climate of development financing.

Neil Webster, Senior Researcher, andAdam Moe Fejerskov, Phd. Stud. at DIIS, will follow on with two short interventions focusing on strengthening public financial management and the institutional architecture for FFD and the implications for OECD, IFIs and the UN.
