To celebrate World Maritime Day 28 September 2023, Senior Researcher Jessica Larsen participated in a webinar gathering international scholars on maritime security, government officials and private sector shipping representatives. The webinar took stock of piracy and counter-piracy efforts in the Gulf of Guinea, in a year that also marks the tenth anniversary of regional and international efforts to curb maritime crime through the so-called Yaoundé Code of Conduct signed in 2013.

The webinar focused discussions on the ways in which the concept of infrastructure can help policy-makers. Firstly to frame the analysis of piracy and counter-piracy, and secondly to support a deeper understanding of how to anticipate piracy and related crimes, while enhancing efforts to counter it.

The webinar is part of the Danida-funded research project Counter-Piracy Infrastructures in the Gulf of Guinea and was organised by Centre for Maritime Law and Security in Ghana.
