New digital teaching materials on disinformation

DIIS will strengthen young people’s critical sense to disinformation

‘Trolls in your feed’ is a new digital publication that attempts to put Russian disinformation on the agenda for young people and give them knowledge about disinformation and fake news:

- Senior Researcher at DIIS, Flemming Spidsboel Hansen explains how Russia has used disinformation strategically - for example in relation to the Skripal case in 2018

- A new study shows that disinformation influences specific groups of people

- A practical guide to become your own fact-checker

The understanding behind the publication is that openness, knowledge and reflection about the exploitation of media we experience and the manipulation that goes on in social media is the best way to strengthen young people’s critical approach. Both to their use of social media and to their understanding of social media’s ability to influence news coverage and actions in our everyday life.

By using Russian disinformation as a case, we hope to open up to discoveries, which will strengthen young people’s critical sense of disinformation from other senders: radicalized organisations, IS, neo-Nazis etc.
