Academic staff
You are expected to bring your knowledge to the table both as a colleague and in society in general. At DIIS, you will have no teaching obligations and therefore more time for your research. In return, you will be challenged to think through and communicate the relevance of your research for society and we expect you to contribute your knowledge in the media and at public seminars and lectures.
Our researchers come from different disciplines and specialisations, which we consider a strength for interdisciplinary collaboration and the professional community.
Senior Researcher
You can be considered for a position as a senior researcher at DIIS if you have worked as a Scientific Officer for more than three years after your PhD.
As a senior researcher at DIIS, tasks range from research, communication and policy work to supervising PhD students. Approx. 60 per cent of your working hours are reserved for research itself. You are also expected to contribute to the professional community, among other things, by seeking funding for your own and colleagues' projects and contributing to knowledge-sharing and collaboration across the organisation.
Researcher
DIIS occasionally makes strategic investments in specific subject areas, where we choose to advertise research positions with a very specific focus. You can be considered for a position as a researcher if you have passed your PhD viva within the last three years or are expected to pass within the next six months. You can be employed in a researcher position for a maximum of eight years.
After three years of employment as a researcher, DIIS will offer the opportunity for senior researcher assessment. If you pass this assessment, you will then be hired as a senior researcher in a temporary position corresponding to the length of your original employment.
Postdoc
As a postdoc at DIIS, you will be employed in a temporary position funded by a grant holder outside DIIS, such as a research council or a foundation. You can be employed in a postdoc position for a maximum of eight years in total.
After three years of employment as a postdoc, DIIS will offer the opportunity for senior researcher assessment. If you pass this assessment, you will then be hired as a senior researcher in a temporary position corresponding to the length of your original employment.
If you have or are applying for a postdoc grant that complements research at DIIS, you are welcome to contact the relevant unit manager or the HR manager if you wish to link your grant to the institute. If your postdoc grant is for at least two years and has an overhead of at least 44%, DIIS may choose to offer you an additional year of postdoc employment where you will be expected to perform other tasks for DIIS.
In collaboration with a senior researcher at DIIS, you can also formulate an application for a larger research project where your postdoc is part of the project.
Research Assistant
If you have a Master's degree, you can be hired as a research assistant. These appointments are often shorter appointments linked to a specific research project.
You can be employed as a research assistant for a maximum of three years.
Emeritus Researcher
We want to retain qualified seniors in the labour market. In cases where DIIS and a senior researcher have a mutual interest in continuing a collaboration after retirement, it is possible to be affiliated as an emeritus researcher.
