Webinar
Portugal, the EU and the future of Wider European Security
Watch the recording of the webinar here
In recent years, a series of global developments have changed the parameters of European security and in turn prompted EU member states to strengthen its common security and defence policy. In this webinar, we will discuss the future of wider European security with the Minister of National Defense of Portugal João Gomes Cravinho. In particular, the conversation will focus on the priorities of the Portuguese EU presidency for security and defence policy. DIIS researchers will ask questions relating to new developments when it comes to strengthening the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), EU missions and operations (especially maritime ones), conflict management taking place outside the CSDP framework (such as the ongoing work on the EUs new maritime concept and its likely implementation in the Gulf of Guinea), and finally, Europe’s relations with the US in light of a new Biden Administration.
