Sofie Henriksen’s research examines humanitarian action in global refugee crises with a focus on partnerships between humanitarian organizations and technology businesses. She is interested in how humanitarian action is practiced and changes when it is done in collaboration with companies such as Google and Microsoft. 

Current research

Sofie Henriksen’s PhD project, Corporate-Humanitarian Aid in the Migration Crisis, examines partnerships between humanitarian organizations and technology businesses in order to understand how humanitarian action and aid for refugees is impacted when businesses increasingly are involved as important humanitarian actors. In the project she explores how the partnerships are practiced and examines their political implications for how global refugee crises are perceived and managed. For instance, what are the implications for humanitarian action when humanitarian solutions are developed with the dual purpose of rescuing refugees and generating profit for the technology businesses?
