New Ph.d. candidate started in November on 'Sustaining Ethical Aquaculture Trade' (SEAT)

Kaspar Nielsen will analyze the sustainability of aquatic food value chains in Asia


The PhD is a part of a large FP7-funded project focusing on the sustainability (environmental impact, social justice, economic efficiency, quality and safety) of four major aquatic food commodities farmed in Asia and exported to Europe. DIIS is one of 14 project partners and will deliver analysis on the dynamics of global value chains linking Southeast Asian farmers/fishers and European retailers/buyers. Fieldwork and analysis will be carried-out by PhD candidate Kaspar Nielsen under the supervision of Stefano Ponte. Read about the SEAT-project here: www.seatglobal.eu
 
Kaspar Nielsen has a background as a Master of Social Science from International Development Studies at Roskilde University. Since graduating in 2006 he has worked in the business support system at Enterprise Europe Network – The EU-Commissions official network for supporting SMEs. Throughout the project period he will be part of the research unit ‘Global Economy, Regulation and Development’ (GEARED) at DIIS and International Development Studies at Roskilde University.
