The Middle East: Transnational links and socio-political dynamics
The Middle East research unit is primarily concerned with two areas of study: Conditions and tendencies within the Middle East, and conditions and tendencies connected to the Middle East. With regard to conditions and tendencies within the Middle East, the unit is conducting research in both the international politics of the region, as well as social movements in and across the states of the Middle East. As for the conditions and tendencies connected to the Middle East, the research is focused on two subareas: Partly on terrorist movements affiliated with the region and radicalisation in diaspora communities, and partly on public diplomacy initiatives between Denmark and groups in the Middle East.
To summarize the focus for the research unit:
- Conditions and tendencies within the Middle East, especially security structures and social movements in the region
- Conditions and tendencies connected to the Middle East, especially the al-Qaida inspired terrorism, radicalisation and public diplomacy
