Projects and programmes
Climate Change and Rural Institutions This is a four-year collaborative research programme which explores the role of district level institutions in providing an enabling environment for climate change adaptation. The programme is coordinated by DIIS and includes partners in Nepal, Vietnam, Uganda, Zambia. Details about the programme here.
Addressing Climate Change and Conflict in Development Assistance
DIIS is conducting a policy study for Danida on how experience from natural resource management interventions can be made useful in future climate interventions in order to reduce or avoid the conflict multiplier effect which climate change may cause. For more information, contact Mikkel Funder.
Climate change, risk and food security This developing research area at DIIS will contribute to providing a more informed and empirically grounded perspective on the changing landscape of risk at local levels in developing countries. This includes the nexus of climate, market and food security risks, and the role of local institutions and climate change information. See Ian Christoplos present these issues here.
Trade and private climate change standards in the agro-food sector Private companies and standard setting bodies are currently developing carbon accounting activities and labeling schemes, sometimes with government support. Such schemes may however discriminate against developing country exports. The DIIS Trade & Development group explores these issues from different perspectives. See a sample article here.
Past activities (selected)
Conflict and cooperation in local water governance What are the consequences for the poor of increased water competition in the rural areas of developing countries? This three-year research programme was coordinated by DIIS and explored local water conflict and cooperation in Bolivia, Mali, Nicaragua, Vietnam and Zambia in collaboration with national and international partners. Details about the programme here.
Low Carbon Development and poverty reduction in developing countries
A study commissioned by Danida to identify options for combining low carbon development pathways with poverty reduction and economic growth in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), as part of efforts to target development assistance to address both poverty and global warming problems. Download the main report here.
Commission on Climate Change and Development DIIS Director Nanna Hvidt was a member of the International Commission on Climate Change and Development. The Commission has studied climate change in a variety of settings, and provide recommendations on stengthening pro-poor climate change adaptation efforts in developing countries.
