Collaborative research on biodiversity, local interests and environmental governance in Nicaragua.
IBESo I (2004-2005) - Collaborative research on biodiversity, local interests and environmental governance in the Biological Reserve Indio Maíz (RBIM) and its buffer zone in El Castillo, Nicaragua. IBESo II (2007-2009) - From declaration to real protection – a comparative research programme on the management of protected areas in Nicaragua.The project is based on an anthropological case study from eastern Peru of a protected area which is co-managed between indigenous communities and environmental authorities. It analyses of the wider context of regional and international relations and agencies constituting it, and investigates the social and political consequences of the new "ethno-environmental" territorialization.
Climate change integration and social education in developing countries - opportunities for development assistance (2002-2009)
Poor farmers' struggle for land, and the implications for agricultural development – how land claims are made, secured and lost in Nicaraguan villages (pdf., 210 KH) (2003-2008) This PhD project analyzed the relationship between land titles, perceived tenure security and investments in land improvement in a rural municipality in the northern part of Nicaragua. Payment for Environmental Services as an element in poverty reduction (2004-2007)
A collaborative research project exploring the options of payment for hydrological ecosystem services as an element in poverty reduction in the Andean region. Social Movements, environmental governance and rural territorial development (2004-2006) DIIS participated as member of the core coordination team in this exploratory research programme coordinated by Rimisp – Latin American Center for Rural Development and funded by IDRC, Canada.
