Background A leading expert will present his views on the perspectives for Syria and Lebanon. The presentation will be followed by a discussion with the audience. Eyal Zisser is Director and Senior Research Fellow at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies, Professor in the Department of Middle Eastern and African History, Tel Aviv University, and Chair of the Department. He holds a PhD from Tel Aviv University and is a specialist in the history and politics of Syria and Lebanon. He has written extensively on Syria and Lebanon and has authored the following books on the matter: Commanding Syria: Bashar al-Asad and the First Years in Power (I.B. Tauris, 2006), In the Name of the Father, Bashar al-Asad's First Years in Power (Tel Aviv University, 2004, in Hebrew), Faces of Syria (HaKibutz Hameuhad, 2003, in Hebrew), Asad's Legacy: Syria in Transition (New York University, 2001), Lebanon: The Challenge of Independence (I.B. Tauris, 2000) and Syria under Asad - At a Crossroads (HaKibutz Hameuhad, 1999, in Hebrew).
