The politics of youth mobilisationAn exploratory workshop on 21-23 FebruaryThe aim of this workshop is to explore the politics of youth mobilisation as it presently plays out in post-colonial states. Emphasis will be placed on various forms of mobilisation in order to shed light on the relationship between youth as a site of intervention and governance on the one hand, and youth as social actors facing specific empirical constraints and possibilities on the other hand. The workshop will bring together researchers who do not necessarily work with ‘youth’ as such but whose work significantly touches upon issues of youth mobilisation. The two day workshop explores present attempts at mobilising youth by investigating four themes in the following panels: Mobilising youth in politics, Demobilisation and reintegration of young combatants, Youth mobility and Youth and religious mobilisation. The workshop will be conducted at DIIS’ main auditorium and consists of a combination of keynote lectures, workshops and plenary sessions that will be announced in the final programme under DIIS events.
