Policy-oriented researchThe policy-oriented research in the Defence and security research unit is funded by the Royal Danish Ministry of Defence as part of the Danish parliamentary Defence agreement for 2005 - 2009. Research topics are formulated in consultation with the Ministry of Defence but the design and the conclusions of the research are entirely independent. They do not necessarily reflect the views of the ministries involved or any other government agency, nor do they constitute any official DIIS position. Policy-oriented research is focused on explaining and understanding threats and challenges to Danish and global security, and to evaluate possible political and institutional solutions to these threats and challenges. The policy-oriented research aims to inform policy-making by furthering understanding of how new and emerging threats may be managed and security and stability may be re-established. Policy-oriented research is primarily focused within 5 thematic areas:
Policy-oriented output takes many forms, but is mainly DIIS Briefs, DIIS Reports, newspaper articles, articles in international journals, seminars and conferences. Our ambition is to conduct policy-relevant research at a high international level and communicating our findings to the Danish public and policy makers. The main publications of the Security and defence research unit, which are published by DIIS, are subject to peer review by an international review panel. Studies published elsewhere are reviewed according to the rules of the journal or publishing house in question. |
