Nordic-EU Cooperation

The 1995 enlargement of the EU to include Finland and Sweden brought an expectation of greater impact of Nordic policy ideas in European integration. The EU unit is interested in taking stock of this impact over a decade later, with an emphasis on identifying both the strengths and weaknesses of Nordic-EU cooperation, including scholarly activity, policy coordination, and the relationships between the two. The unit works together with other Nordic institutes to promote Nordic-EU cooperation, including areas such as EU security policy and transatlantic relations, EU Neighbourhood Policy, as well as EU institutional politics and Nordic-EU cooperation itself.

The longer term aim is to institutionalise cooperation between scholars working on Nordic-EU questions in order to encourage far greater interaction and collaborative work.
