Zambian minister supports “Competing for Water” study

The Zambian Minister of Local Government, Sylvia Masebo, actively supports the DIIS-coordinated research programme on conflict and cooperation in local water governance. The Minister has agreed to act as Patron for the project, and recently expressed her support for the study in an article in the “Zambia Daily Mail”, where she emphasized the need for better knowledge on local water governance as provided by the research programme.

A National Working Group consisting of relevant stakeholders from Government and Civil Society has been established to ensure that the findings from the study are fed into national and local policy and planning. The programme is furthermore linked to the Danida supported Water Sector Programme in Zambia.

The research programme is coordinated by DIIS and carried out in five countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In Zambia, the programme is carried out by the Integrated Water Resource Management Center at the University of Zambia, in collaboration with DIIS and the International Water Management Institute. The programme is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs
