Background
 
Since the launch of the Doha Round in 2001, new states have joined the WTO, new politicians, e.g. the British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown and the French President, Nicolas Sarközy, have come into office, and the U.S. president, George W. Bush has not renewed his fast track authority.

In order to clarify what these developments may have of consequence for the future of the Doha round, this seminar focuses on the current status of political debates on international trade and Doha Round in the EU and the U.S.

10.00-10.05       Welcome
                                   
10.05-10.25       Discussing International Trade: The U.S. Version
                        Edward Ashbee, Associate Professor, Copenhagen Business School
                        An expert on US politics and society, Mr. Ashbee will address the
                        debate between Congress and the President on US’ trade policy.
 
10.25-10.55       Discussing International Trade: The EU Version
                        Thomas Bernt Hansen, Editor, Dagbladet Børsen
                        Mr. Hansen will give an assessment of whether and which changes in
                        the EU’s trade policy may be expected by election of new leaders in 
                        France, the UK and Germany.
 
10.55-11.15       Shaping the Debate 
                        Søren Kelstrup, Head of Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
                        of Denmark
                        Mr. Kelstrup will present the Danish views on how the Doha Round can
                        be put back on track.
 
11.15-11.30       Coffee Break
 
11.30-12.00       Open discussion
