From declaration to real protection – a comparative research programme on the management of protected areas in Nicaragua – IBESo IIAs part of Danida’s support to the Environmental Sector (PASMA) in Nicaragua, DIIS has signed an agreement with the Royal Danish Embassy in Nicaragua to undertake a two-year comparative research programme on protected area management in Nicaragua. Based on social and botanical research in four protected areas, the aim of the programme is to develop recommendations with respect to the institutional architecture and the technical instruments associated with protected area management. The research programme will be undertaken in collaboration with Nicaraguan and Danish research institutions and will be coordinated by senior researcher Helle Munk Ravnborg.
