What to Learn and Not to Learn from the Cold War

Professor Mastny is Coordinator of the Parallel History Project on NATO and the Warsaw Pact, and he was NATO’s first Wörner Fellow in 1996. Prior to obtaining his current position at the Woodrow Wilson Center he has worked as professor of history and international relations at Columbia University, University of Illinois, Boston University and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and as a professor of strategy at U.S. Naval War College.

He is the author of numerous academic publications on the Soviet Union and the Cold War, and his latest book, The Cold War and Soviet Insecurity: The Stalin Years received the George L. Beer Prize of the American Historical Association.

The seminar will be held in English.

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required by e-mail to no later than 11 June 2004 at 12.00 noon. Please await confirmation by e-mail from DIIS for participation.
