Cold War Studies

The Danish Government has tasked the Danish Institute for International Studies with preparing a White Book on the security policy situation of Denmark during the Cold War 1945-1991.

The report was published 30 June, 2005.

The analysis sheds light on the security policy strategy and the military threat from the Soviet Union and the other Warsaw Pact countries against Denmark and Western Europe.

Furthermore, the analysis deals with the attempts of Warsaw Pact countries to influence Denmark's NATO policy, both their official policy and their other activities such as a variety of active measures and intelligence operations.

Finally, the study gives an overview of the official Danish security policy and the public debate on security policy.Warsaw Pact countries' assessment of the Danish security policy's influence on Denmark's defence posture and position within NATO will be examined together with the NATO allies' assessments and considerations relating to Denmark.
