Will Libya save NATO?

NATO Version 3.0 is said to be fit for new security challenges - Libya may be the test!

It has been claimed by the US Ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder, that the NATO produced by the new Strategic Concept will be a NATO Version 3.0. Trine Flockhart assesses this claim in a new DIIS Report After the Strategic Concept - Towards a NATO Version 3.0 by investigating and outlining the characteristics of earlier 'versions' of NATO.

The report presents a new theoretical framework, which stresses the importance of ontological security derived from a strong narrative, a high level of self-esteem and reinforcing functional and rhetorical action, without these elements in place NATO is unlikely to be able to develop into the strong, dynamic and robust Alliance envisaged in Daalder's Version 3.0, but it may instead develop into a 'deformed' Version 3.0 which will be a weak and divided Alliance unable to act in the manner outlined in the new Strategic Concept.
