The emergence of Islamic State in Afghanistan and Pakistan

A view on the rivalries

In a forthcoming book chapter Mona Kanwal Sheikh looks at the emergence of Islamic State in Afghanistan and Pakistan. She asks what happened with AQ since 2001 when the borderlands between afghnaistan and Pakistan was the hotbed of the movement. The chapter also reviews the relationship between the dominant Taleban-related movement in the region, Al Qaeda, and the new kid in town; Islamic State.

The chapter is a translated into english, and will be part of a forthcoming book on the relationship between Al Qaeda and Islamic State in different regions. The book will be in Danish and published by the DIIS.
